New (mini) edition of the book “Unexpected Photo Essay”

Unexpected Book on the "Unexpected Photo Essay on Cortázar, his readers and Paris" by Hugo Passarello Luna

Now in English:

I am almost run out of copies of my book “Unexpected Photo Essay on Cortázar“, so I started a new mini edition (a bit smaller and, thus, less photos but the same concept). The new edition is launched just in time for Valentine’s Day, so if you are looking for n original, exclusive, interesting and fun present, you just found it.

If you are in Paris you can buy it at Le Petit Espace gallery (15 Rue Bouchardon); if you are nowhere around the capital just send me an email and I will mail you a copy to wherever you are.

Below some images of the Unexpexted Box from the Unexpected Photo Essay on Cortazar, his readers and Paris.

Unexpected Book on the Unexpected Photo Essay on Cortazar

The Photo book in a few words:

The book is part of a larger project I worked on for the past year, theUnexpected Photo Essay on Cortázar, his readers and Paris”, a series of portraits, taken in Paris, of friends and readers of Argentine writer Julio Cortázar.

This is not your ordinary photo book. Following the title of the project it is an Unexpected Book, a publication that converts the photos into objects with which the reader has to interact to see the images.

It consists of:

– Nine envelopes (five in the mini edition) and one pebble are inside a book shaped cardboard box.

– The envelopes represent the hopscotch’s squares.

– Each envelope conceals a photo.

– The reader has to display them in a hopscotch format and then throw the stone to play and unveil the stories hidden within each envelope.

What is the “Unexpected Photo Essay on Cortázar”?

The story is a series of portraits, taken in Paris, of friends and readers of Argentine writer Julio Cortázar.

Each of the 70 participants had to choose a passage of the book Hopscotch that mentions a place in Paris. I then took a portrait of them in the chosen site, and asked them to briefly explain why they preferred it over others.

Merci,

Dennis
